Dear Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board,

I would like to ask for the following information under Law no 04/2013 of 08/02/2013 relating to access to information.

I am a journalist working on a story about the mining sector in Rwanda. I understand the Government has recently embarked on correcting the mistakes that have occurred in the sector as a result of privatizations. I want to get an understanding of how the government is going around it.

I am interested in particular in knowing;

1. How many companies are currently operating in Rwanda’s mining sector?
2. How many companies have the government stopped their operations as a result of malpractices, and what are some of these malpractices?
3. How many concessions has the government taken over?
4. Whether there is an estimates of how much Rwanda may have lost as a result of some of the mining companies not adding value to minerals (you may give a specific example of one company).
